Service Learning project in SF Senior Center
Students prepared presentations about their families and shared a wonderful morning of connection in circle conversations with elderly people coming from Latin countries in SF Senior Center
Not only was it a fantastic way for many of the students to try their hand at speaking Spanish authentically to communicate outside of school, but they also had to practice being kind and generous with elders with meaningful activities where students could build relationships with community members along with building up their skills.

Dia de los Muertos Exhibit
Students went to the SF Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts annual Día de los Muertos altar exhibition. They had the opportunity to learn more about this celebration beyond the classroom. I led this fieldtrip 100% in Spanish and students ended up ordering and tasting the typical "pan de muerto" in a Mexican Bakery.
Connecting with a school in Costa Rica
I collaborate with a teachers abroad. This is a project with Costa Rica, connecting classes via skype. The students had the opportunity to interact with kids abroad. They prepared questions and presentations in Spanish and also got the opportunity to had a virtual tour of the school and the playground even sightseeing some of the amazing CR wildlife.
Visiting Latin Communities
Students have the opportunity to put into action their skills learnt in class. In the picture we can see a visit to a Salvadorian Restaurant after studying the history and culture of El Salvador where they interacted with the restaurant owner and employees, played a cultural quiz about Salvadorian history and culture and ordered Salvadorian pupusas. As an extra final project they created a fantastic 5 star yelp review of the restaurant and uploaded to the net.
Latino Murals Balmy Alley
Students visited Balmy Alley, located in the Mission District in San Francisco, California. The block long alley is the best place to see the most concentrated collection of murals in San Francisco. The murals began in the mid-80's as an expression of artists' outrage over human rights and political abuses in Central America, containing subjects from human rights to local gentrification. Tours were done 100% in Spanish.
Language Trips Abroad
During several years I had the opportunity to work for the Swedish company STS/Interway in Oxford, Eastbourne & London, UK.
My job included, among other:
- Plan and lead classes, cultural trips and activities for language learners.
- Support host families and students in a day to day basis.
